iPod classic battery drains

Was wondering if anyone else had this problem since I haven't seen it posted here? I noticed a couple weeks ago that my 160gb iPod seemed to lose it's battery power when I had it sleeping. Then Friday night I gave it a full charge and listened to it for only 5 hours on Saturday. Put it back to sleep and Sunday morning my battery was dead! What the heck is going on? I noticed when I hold "play" to put it to sleep it takes a second or two less than the older models. Can anyone please help me on this?

Well here we are folks, a few weeks later and I still have had no problems. Just stay away from Cover Flow for now until they fix the darn bug. I've read that some of you do not turn off iPod when it's paused or playing a song. Just wanted to chime in that I always, and I mean always put mine to sleep in the middle of a song and I never have any problems. Cover Flow is the biggest culprit IMO(which ***** seeing as after the HD space that was the no. 2 reason for buying it).

Happy Thanksgiving folks!

I wish you get a new one, but I don't think so, check other posts about this issue, the ipods had been returned to the customers saying that there's nothing wrong with them.....

BTW I experienced the same problem, but since I found this post two weeks ago I've been following the instructions sugested and now before turnning off my Ipod, first I exit from "Cover Flow" menu, then make sure the Hard Disc has sttoped spinning, and then turn it off.... and my battery life is a lot better now.... I know this is not a solution but it helps until apple releases a better software version which fixes this issue....!!!!!

while the games and coverflow are nice things to have, they arent essential to me. i just want the **** thing to play music, thats why i bought it. and now i can do that without the battery dying on me every 2 or 3 days. anyways, this whole hard drive thing and the way apple has handled it makes me think that this will be the first and last apple product ill ever buy.

Yeah, I hear ya. I'm in the same boat too. I sent mine back to Apple because the baterry has drained 5 times already and i think i'm entitled to a new one being they only last so long. Why should I have to eat 5 FULL charging cycles.
That's 100 hours of music. Some guy posted that they're just going to send it back to me and say it's fine. I posted my feelings (no cursing) and apple removed it, they said it was "speculative and of no technical value".
I agree with what you said about apple too, very disappointing and soon to be a little wiser in consumer law, you know the defrauding type. I hope that's not offensive. I hope we all come out of this for the good...Eric

I finally upgraded to 7.5 over the weekend. Since then, my iPod has repeatedly drained while not in use. I used it for an hour or less Sunday and it was dead when I got back in the car that night. I charged it all night last night, listened to it for about forty minutes on the way to work. I got in the car after work, and the battery's power was low and in the "red zone." I don't particularly hear the hard drive running after it's turned off, so I don't think that's the problem. It's very frustrating.

This is my second 80GB iPod classic - the first one was just plain screwed up and they replaced it at the store. Since then, I've had no issues and awesome battery life. This leads me to believe it's somehow related to the iTunes 7.5 update. Are people downgrading to the previous iTunes software to fix their problems?
