Yesterday I was asked to go to comp USA to buy/look at a new powermac that ahppened to be on clearance. When we were saying that we would like to purchase the machine, he gave us suggestions of add ons. UPC backup, external HD, RAM, etc. But then he said that it would be a good sufggestion to buy a power conditioner. i have one in my home theater system to protect the reciever and tv but a powermac? My question is, is that guy serrious, or is he just trying to make 1 300 dollar sale on commission.
Thanks. J.Martin
The need for line conditioner largely depends on the power condition in your local area/home/office. Do you experience surges or power fluctuation frequently at place where you plan on installing Power Mac? Some of the UPS will function as line conditioner as well so that's something to think about.
But if you get stable power, you should be fine with UPS, hope this helps.
I know what A power conditioner does. I currently have a monster power conditioner. I was just wone\dering if it would be a good investment or not. But really, thanks for your opinion. J.Martin
A UPS and a power conditioner? I and probably many of us have just UPS's. I have my single processor model on the 1000 VA APC model, but the 1200 VA model would have been safer. A dual processor machine would probably be best at 1500. They aren't cheap, but not quite $300. I thought power conditioners were mostly for high end stereo equipment or the like. The UPS supplies as much power conditioning as a computer would need, I'd think.
Well the clerk makes total sense but there are many sources to re-search and buy ram, external hard drives and power conditioners at your convenience. I have acquired all three during the first two years of my PM-G5 purchase. Since I use my workstation for recording digital audio as well as many other tasks therefore I like using power conditioners for all my electronics.
I see,
I was just asking about redundancy. I have a monster power powerconditioner. It was 399.99 and weighs about 15 pounds. It just makes sure a steady stream of 120 volts are going to my reciever and tv.
dont know if it helps but thaks for your input.

Well since you already own a power conditioner and a pretty expensive one then you are already set and would not need a second. I have tons of high powered gear hooked up to my conditioner and if there is a flux in the power a little red light pops on but I have never seen it happen. Number one question is did you buy the Power Mac from Comp usa and what kind was it?
