Keychain Error -25299: There was a problem saving to your keychain.

Question

Keychain Error -25299: There was a problem saving to your keychain.

Whenever I log into the computer, I get a prompt to enter my "login" keychain password. Every time. When I put it in, everything works OK ... except that my iDisk no longer works. When I try to go to the .mac preference pane, I get the following error...

+*Keychain Error*+
+There was a problem saving to your keychain. Please try again or use Keychain Access to verify your keychain. Error: -25299+

This is an error that comes up before I even get to enter my use name and password (for .mac).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Alternatively, how do I unke the everything keychain-related and start over with a new keychain?

NOTE: this was a problem before I got to 10.5 ... it is NOT a new 10.5 problem.

Have you run Keychain Access? It's in the /Applications/Utilities folder. There is a drop down option for "repair keychain." It's possible that somehow your login keychain password (which is typically unlocked at login) somehow got out of sync with your machine password.

There is a 3rd party tool called "Keychain Minder" hosted on AFP548 which can also help here... but really it's easy enough to just reset things with Keychain First Aid.

And if you really just want to blow away the login keychain, go to your ~/Library/Keychains directory, rename login.keychain (or whatever your UNIX short name is... maybe bcosta or something) to old.keychain, and then log out and log back in. A new keychain will be created for you at login (note you will lose all your saved passwords... but if you add the old keychain to the keychains list in Keychain Access, you can see them and drag them to the new login keychain).

Thanks a lot! The keychain fix did not work (does it ever?) But, blowing away the keychain did the trick.
