QuickTime Pro NOT being unlocked upon Logic 8 Studio Install (unanswered!)

Hello-
Noticed the other relevant post was marked as 'answered' but in fact it has not been answered for either of us.
Installed Leopard on my 15" LED 2.2ghz MBP with 2gb ram today.
Then installed Logic 8 Studio Upgrade (I also had to buy Logic 8 Express at the store to use this).
I checked EVERY ONE of the install packages options (~50GB of stuff), and yet my Quicktime Player is still not upgraded to QuickTime Pro, as supposedly it should have been.

Anyone have an 'easy fix' for this? Is there a QT 7 Pro "serial number" on my installation disks somewhere I can use? Help! Thanks guys!

Not really an answer for you, but I installed Logic Studio, and I just checked the system prefs - Quicktime, and it says in the 'Register' tab:
Registered to: Apple Pro Apps User
Registration Code: Automatic

I didn't explicit enable anything for it in the installer that I can recall, though I'll have another look tonight. Have you registered? Just wonder if that activates it.

Look in /Library/Preferences (that's the system library folder, not your user/library) for the file:
com.apple.Quicktime.plist

If you have that file, drag it to the desktop or trash, then rerun QT and go to registration - it should show the "automatic" ProApps user registration as mentioned, as long as your ProApp is registered.

There is no dedicated QT Pro serial number - it's like QT itself checks the Logic Studio license and enables itself.

BeeJay-
Thank you for the tip, however, I do not have that file anywhere on my Hard Drive. Looked in both /Library as well as my user/Library.

QT is still just the 'Player' version, and when I bring up the register box, it's still prompting for name and serial number to unlock to Pro.

I wonder if b/c I had to buy both Logic 8 Express and Logic Studio 8 Upgrade (since they didn't have just a 'full' version of Logic Studio), if that's what the problem is. I did not have to install Logic 8 Express...rather I only needed to enter its serial number during the installation of Logic 8 Studio.
That being the case, do you think perhaps this is the reason Quicktime 'got left out of the process' somehow?

Thanks guys, your input has been helpful so far...!

Ok - QT is looking at the file:
/Library/Application Support/ProApps/Logic Studio System ID

(this is where your Logic Studio serial number is kept.)

If I remove that file, the QT Pro registration disappears as well.

The only things that are in that file are your name, and your (encrypted) serial number.
Check that you have that file, and not something like Logic Express System ID or somesuch.

Hmm yes, i have that file... here are the contents. I edited some of the names and encrypted bit of the key in case someone else got fishy idea:

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

i'm beginning to think the problem is with my QT not picking up on the 'obvious' here...

Well, I managed to sort it out by moving the QT.app into a subfolder in my Applications directory and then relaunching QT.app. Sure enough, I checked in the 'register' tab and it says QT Pro Apps User or whatever and all is hunky-dory.

Thanks for your help both of you... definitely helped me arrive at the solution, as ******** as it ended up being. Would be curious to know your thoughts on why that worked....

Hmm... your file is basically the same as mine except that you have two serials in there, presumably one for LE, and one for LS.

I don't know why moving the QT app worked, perhaps it was using some cached data, and moving forced a cache update, or something? If you put it back to the Apps directory, is it still registered?

The other thing that might affect it is if your LE serial was first in the list, perhaps it only initially picked up on that (LE serial numbers don't qualify for QTPro) - I'd probably try reordering it and putting the LS serial first.

Other than that, I dunno... stil, at least it's working.. 😉

Am wondering how I can know for sure it is QTPro. In the menu bar, mine says "QuickTime Player", but under prefs/registration, it says QuickTime Pro Registration/Registerred to Apple Pro Apps User, and on the bottom it says QuickTime 7 Pro. Buy QTP is grayed out.

When I launch it, the menu bar still says QuickTime Player, but I do have things in the menu that could be qualifying for Pro, such as Export, etc. I really don't know if those things were present in the free QT because honestly I never launched it to look around in the menus.

Yes you have PRO. If you didn't, the registration stuff would be blank. The other way to tell is if you go to File, Edit, View, or Window drop down menu's. If you DON'T have Pro, most of the choices will be grayed out, with a little 'PRO' tag next to those choices, indicating that those choices are only available on the PRO version. If you don't see anything like this and all of your choices are available, you have PRO.
