Can you try with one of the printers connected directly to your Mac running Leopard? There have been reports of other basic printing functionality (no landscape printing) with Leopard. One of the more consistent themes has been that they were printing to a shared Windows printer.

That anecdotal experience is good, but it does not further trying to find an answer for your situation. I have had no problems with printing odd or even pages using the Gutenprint drivers with my HP DeskJet 870. That is why I asked if you could connect one of the printers directly to your Mac running Leopard and see if the Gutenprint drivers behave correctly. The goal is to find out whether it is the Gutenprint drivers, something about printing to a shared Windows printer, or something else that is causing this behavior.

You might also want to try the hpijs drivers for the LaserJet 1300 to see if they are able to print odd or even pages. That also would be of help in determining where the problem is. http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs

Sorry, no help, just got another odd windows printing problem that may be related:

Using an HP LJ 1100 shared from a windows machine. used to work fine, now upgraded to 10.5 and now only prints page 1. the print job stays in the queue saying "stopped" when I press "resume" it prints page 1 again.

Tried the gutenberg drivers included with 10.5 and the hpijs drivers, same problem.

Any got any ideas?

Same problem here. HP LaserJet 3020 All-in-one, can't print in landscape. It's shared from a Windows machine. Printing to PDF shows the page exactly as I want it, but printing that gives me a portrait page printed sideways. It's like something isn't communicating to the printer.

I have the same problem: if I select odd numbered pages, it still prints the even pages too. Leopard 10.5.1, and HP Deskjet 832C shared from Windows XP.

I printed only odd pages on a PDF file to check the output before sending it to the printer, and there were odd and even pages. So maybe the problem is not dependent on printer drivers but on Leopard itself?

I can confirm that even/odd pages do NOT work for me running Leopard. Print dialog for Paper Handling allows the choice, but no matter what both even and odd pages come out of the printer. Works correctly under Tiger on same file, same printer, same setup, etc. so I'm guessing it must be Leopard!

I also have this problem. I've discovered a sort-of work-around however. If you "Save as PostScript" in the PDF menu of the print dialog, the even vs. odd pages settings are observed. If you then open the PostScript file in Preview you can print it. However, no matter what I do, the page order setting of "Reverse" always seems to be ignored. No amount of experimenting has found a way for Leopard to print pages in reverse order.

I'd also like to point out that the console records "DEBUG:" messages when printing. Is this normal? It makes me suspicious that printing, even in 10.5.1, isn't really ready. Also, as of this writing, Gutenprint's stable package is 5.0.2 which was only released recently. The latest testing version is 5.1.6. Leopard has 5.1.3 which means that Apple has shipped a testing version, not a stable one, as well as an old testing version at that.

Has anyone filed a bug for all the printing misbehavior reported in this thread already?

For the case of SMB / Windows shared printers, I think that 10.5.2 fixed the odd / even / number of copies / duplex issue.
