Leopard Crashes

Since installing Leopard, I have had 2-4 crashes per day. I get the 'window' shade graying scrolling down the screen, then the multilingual message telling me to hold the power button down for a hard reboot.

Never experienced this on the previous OS. It's very frustrating!!

Are other people experiencing this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5)

I have had quite a few "freezes" which have required shutting down using the power button. Latest was this am.

Not quite sure what to make of it, except the ominous "Shutdown now" in line 2.
Trying to send a report to Apple...but cannot find link for that either.

I am having the same issue. I just got my G5 back a couple weeks ago from Applecare because the logic board fried, and got Leopard because I had gotten ilife 08 and then saw that it was not compatible with my older version of Os X. Leopord worked great on my computer for a day, but now I am getting the grey restart your computer box every 45 minutes or so. It did it 3 times this morning alone before I left for work. Very frustrating and I can't imagaine it's good for the life of my computer or HD to have to hard restart my computer this much. Has anyone heard of any firmware or software updates yet?

Oct 31, 2007 6:51 PM in response to jcomp

I have had my MacPro since March. NEVER has it crashed.

It has crashed, no exageration, 3-5 times a day since installing Leopoard. I did a clean install....TWICE on the machine. The system randomly just "hangs" every now and then. Open iChat? Sometimes it opens, sometimes it crashes the computer. Open iMovie? Sometimes it opens sometimes it crashes the system. Installing Logic Studio earlier crashed the computer. Email sometimes works, sometimes doesn't.

This is very very very very frustrating. This is why i got rid of my Windows machine in the first place. When I used the MacPro with Tiger it JUST PLAIN OLD WORKED!! This thing now is actually becoming depressing to use. I surely hope there is a magic bullet software update(s) in the works.

Come on. Give me a break. I really really love Apple and last week bought TWO more MacBook Pros for my wife and I and so far so good on those machines...

Very very frustrated in Florida

Sorry to hear this. The freezes seem to be common.

1) Try repairing permissions...this is an old standby and sometimes works.
2) Make sure to send in Bug reports if the system asks you. (Does not do so for freezes)
3) Have you checked out www.macfixit.com? The site is a mine of useful information.

Apple will get it right...but I think this is not uncommon for a new system. Consider that many businesses never upgraded to XP until SP2 came out. Tiger was quite mature when you got it.

Best of luck, and keep posting...there are many far more knowledgeable than I here who will probably put in their 2c worth.

Hey guys.
I have an alluminum 24" 2.4GHz, and i had these crashing problems very very often back in tiger, right when these iMacs came out. This was all because of iMac update 1.1. I downgraded to 1.0, so the problem stopped. Now its back again .....
Now whenever i do something graphical (i.e. photobooth, finder coverflow, quicktime) the mac crashes. I get some scratchy lines, and BOOM. sometimes even the mouse stops moving!!! I've been waiting for leopard for quite a long time, and i gotta tell you, so for i feel sad to go on to my beloved mac.
but yeah hard rebooting can NOT be good for a mac.
I have to do it 3-8 times a day!
help apple. fix this mess you've made!
