ADAPTEC CARD 39160 and Leopard on G5 ?

Hi,i have a booting hard drive on my Adaptec Powerdomain 39160 which worked fine on Panhter and on Tiger , now Leopard install does simply not recognize the drive thus failing to install it as a boot volume what can i do ? Its always the same problem with missing drivers when a new OSX system arrives...will apple do something about it ? Adaptec claims on their site that they don't continue doing softwares or firmware updates for it...real pain in the Axx ! somebody with same problems ? thanx all 😉

Hi froggydan-

Yup-everybody in your situation is experiencing the same problem.

It would be up to Adaptec to update their own drivers.

This is just what I was fearing.
I have a Medea VideoRaid RT, connected to an Adaptec PowerDomain 39160 card, and want to upgrade from Tiger to Leopard. I didnt' want to dive into buying and installing Leopard until I knew the SCSI card would work, and here's the bad news, I guess.
It's a shame the ATTO cards are so pricey, otherwise I'd just get a replacement from them. They at least seem interested in supporting OSX. Adaptec couldn't be bothered shortly after 2001.

I just had this issue. How come after I install Leopard on my ATA drive the OS sees and mounts the SCSI drives just fine?

Its just the install that doest not see the drive.

Does anyone know of a workaround or fix for this? I would love to install Leopard on my SCSI drive.

Maybe you can clone your Leopard installation onto a SCSI drive in the near future. The utility programs are still catching up to Leopard.

Then the question will be - Will the clone show up in the Start Up Disk prefs.

I was thinking that same thing, but while I know how to do this sort of thing on a PC, I am pretty much an amateur with a MAC =(

Do you know of a clone program on a mac? (thats free!) Id love to just copy the drive image to the scsi drive, then select it as a boot device!

clone didnt work lol i tried carbon copy clone. It thinks about it, but i just get the gray apple screen with the spinning going =/ looks like im screwed for installing leopard on a SCSI drive via an adaptec card lol

Hi.

Are you saying you have the 39160 and you are able to mount and see the scsi drive in 10.5?

I am not able to mount my scsi drive either from 29160 or 39160.!

I can mount and read the drives in 10.5.2 with the 1.3 updater (v1.2 flash)

I cannot write to them.
