Nike + Ipod Not Tracking Proper Distance

I have been using my Nike + Ipod for the last five months with no problems at all. Three weeks ago it started tracking the wrong distance. Today I ran five miles and at the end it reported that I ran one mile! I haven't gotten an low battery notices. I have not tried calibrating - although the posts indicate this really doesn't help. The device is place in my Nike sneaker correctly. Any suggestions?

The Nike + iPod sports kit is just a pedometer. It will never show you the real distance. In your case the deviation is extreme, I agree.

To get the exact distance of your workout you can use a freeware called TrailRunner ( http://trailrunnerx.com). The app allows you to layout your route on a map like in GoogleEarth and then connect that route to your workout. Both the route and the workout data are then stored in the diary on your mac. So you're independed from nikeplus.

There's also a tutorial online on how that works:

Hope this was useful.

I'm beginning to hate this thing. I just went out for a jog with my nike pedometer with the intention of calibrating the unit. I carried my GPS unit in the other hand to track the distance run.

I tried calibrating for a run by selecting 0.25 miles. I watched my GPS unit and at 0.25 miles the IPOD had only accumulated 0.03 miles. I selected to end the calibration, but it told me the distances did not match and would not let me calibrate.

I did it again using 400 meters. I had gone 450 meters by the time I looked at my ipod, but my GPS unit had 1.5 km. So in essence, I just made the calibration even worse by accepting 450 m for a 400 m calibration.

Arg! Why is it so low? No one can possible have a stride that short?
