fyi I have an iphone & exact same issues HOWEVER youtube works on EDGE server----- so its just under the wifi server that there is an issue; if u have an iphone & have edge svc try it; u will see it works sooooo I do not think a "youtube" issue ALSO my boss bought a brand new itouch last nite & guess what? yep having same youtube wifi "movie couldn't be played" message on his itouch. So really wierd youtube is not working on wifi server for iphones or the itouch but works on iphone edge server. Also we have tried multiple wifi servers & same problem. I think i am gonna call an apple retail store & ask someone on the phone if their display models are playing youtube; I would drive there to see for myself but the closest is 1.5 hours away; maybe someone on here that is having these probs is close to an apple retail store & could stop in & chk it out!!!

Just out of curiosity, I checked if youtube works in my appletv this afternoon, and it is working just fine. So the problem might not be coming from the youtube servers. It might just be iPhone specific.

I'm still waiting for the fix. Hope one is forthcoming.

Not 100% true. YouTube uses different servers for the site and the iPhone. One set could be working and the other down.

Since this problem is being reported on Touches as well, it leads me to believe its a server issue.

UPDATE I just talked to a rep at the APPLE store at the Millenia Mall in Orlando FL & guess what? No youtube on wifi; the rep I talked to didn't even know about the issue; he tried it while he was on the phone with me & was like "wow I am getting the same msg" & just like us u turn wifi off & it works under edge server. I told him ya everyone is having this prob with the iphones & itouches & I asked who we could contact 'cause apple hasn't posted anything & he said he thinks it is a youtube issue because all the iphones & itouches aren't just gonna quit working at the same time...i guess this does kinda make since. Guess I'll try to get some info outta youtube via email if possible.

you got a valid point there. I'm under the assumption that the same server cluster serves the apple tv and the iphone/ipod touch youtube video requests.

I do remember that all flash videos had to be converted to H.264 format for the apple products.

Anyway, the wait goes on...funny how when everything works, we tend to take them for granted, but now that I don't have the convenience of just firing up the iphone youtube widget to check on some video, something is just not right...

I don't know what happened ... as I posted earlier, I couldn't get any YouTube videos to play WiFi/Edge and I even tried to turn off/reset/restore the device and nothing helped. At 7:00pm 10/31/07 EDT and I got 1 video to play from my favorites/bookmark on the Edge Network. Its now 7:15 and I can play videos on Edge and WiFi. I've tried 4 videos both on bookmark and on featured videos and one that i searched. Hope the issue was resolved on the server end and hope it won't happen again!
