.avi's now .jpg's

i moved files around in the photos folder (consolidated all files and folders into one folder) because i am an idiot/virgo and like to 'clean' things.

Now all my .avi (movie files) that i took with my canon digital camera are only coming up as pic's (jpg's). It displays the first frame of the video as a pic and will not play the video.

I have changed the file types. I STILL HAVE the files on the computer and even moved them to my external hard drive and tried opening them on my PC and they still come up as a picture and not video file.

The files are still there. I even went into a genius bar and the guy suggested a free converter program but it did not work. Still no movie files!

HELP!

macbook, Mac OS X (10.4.10), iPhoto6

Unless you can return things to the way they were, you'll need to create and populate a new library.

To create and populate a new library:

Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.

Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop

Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.

Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.

When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.

In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Remember: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.

Just because a virgo doesn't understand the layout, doesn't mean it's untidy 😉

i'm sorry, i should have mentioned. I did move things back to how they were, but it still only showed my movie files as pictures. I also tried what you suggested but my movies still show as pictures (in i photo it used to show a thumbnail with a time stamp showing how long the video clip was) now it shows the thumbnail with 00's in the time stamp field and when i click it to open it opens in quicktime but does not play the movie file it just shows that first frame as a picture. I'm doomed.

yes, the files are still there but they have been changed to .jpg and like i said they show in iphoto even with a thumbnail but they do not play as movie video files. the file types seem to have been changed to .jpg but when i try to change them back to .avi they still only play the first frame of the video and in iphoto the thumbnail will only show 00's in the time stamp and when you click the thumnail and quicktime opens it only shows the first frame of the video as a picture.
