Missing Windows (Canvas & Timeline)

Second time on tonight, and now I'm tired and making silly mistakes!

Again, I hope this is a very simple quick fix.
Whilst working with FCE, I was messing around on the Timeline.
I meant to delete a couple of edits with 'Apple' + Z x2
Instead I hit 'Apple' + W x2.
That managed to close the Timeline & Canvas for me, and now I'm not sure how to get them back.
I've tried to use the top bar drop-down menu under 'Window" and select Standard, to no effect. Canvas & Timeline are not even available to select in the first 'Window' drop-down menu.
I have quit FCE and restarted, again, to no effect.
Canvas & Timeline still missing.
I'm tired and hope I'm just overlooking something really obvious.
All help appreciated so I can get to bed!

I think what you did was close your sequence (cmd - W).

Double click on a sequence in the browser and its timeline and canvas window should reappear.

Hi there.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I have tried that, but it doesn't bring the Canvas & Timeline back.
It just updates the Viewer window.
Still a gaping hole to the right and bottom of my screen unfortunately.

Further to my first posting on this thread, I restarted my computer and then started up FCE
A 'New Project' template presented, ie Browser, Viewer, Canvas & Timeline.
"Great" I thought. I'll just reload my work in progress and all will be good.
I reloaded the ongoing project, but as soon as I did, the Canvas & Timeline disappeared.

Any other suggestions gratefully accepted.

What R. Mitchell Fore suggested SHOULD work.

Find the Sequence icon in the BROWSER and double-click it.

Hello,
I just had the same problem and found the solution on the Final Cut Pro discussion.
Here is the thread to it. I deleted the preference files and it now works perfectly.

Deleting the Preference Files is always the first thing you should try when FCE does not behave properly.

However, you must do it correctly exactly like this:-

Make sure you're double clicking a SEQUENCE, not a CLIP. A sequence, by default will open the Canvas and Timeline. A Clip, by default, will open in the VIEWER.

Guys,

again, a simple solution to a problem that gave me a sleepless night (well, hour & a half!)
I was (as some of you deduced) double clicking on a clip in the browser, and not on a sequence.
All back working again.
