Outgoing Mail Server Offline

Hey guys,

here Mail is driving me crazy... I configured it once but from time to time when for example I move from home in the office I have problems in sending emails. It says that the outgoing mail server is offline. Actually at a certain point it starts to work again but I've no clue what was wrong. I try to change settings but then I but them back as originally and magically it works again but is not alway the case.

I'm a scientist and I don't like very much this Magic... It simply should work as expected. With Tiger I did not have a single problem with Mail...

Any idea!?

hey guys,

just letting u all know i am experiencing the exact same problem... every now and then, my outgoing email server goes offline and i cant send emails...

then, randomly, after 5mins or even 2hrs, it goes back online again...

i guess the good thing here is that the fact it is happening to all of us, it has to be a bug in leopard which will be fixed in an update, hopefully soon...

its always reassuring reading other ppl having same problems, rather than it be an isolated issue where only you are the one having the issue...

other than this, leopard is very nice to work in, nice attractive environment....

lets just all hope for an update soon...

Two of the five outgoing mail servers I use were showing "offline" tonight. I deleted both, then recreated them. The first came back and worked as normal. The second however, still showed "offline." I checked on a laptop that also uses that server that still runs Tiger and all was well.

Mail doesn't really seem to be making an attempt to connect with the server. It immediately puts up a "no-go" message.

Lottsa little problems with Mail. Disappearing RSS links, multiplying "On My Mac" folders, "offline" servers that aren't really offline. All these little problems are starting to add up to a big problem. I need reliable e-mail.

I am so glad I found this forum. I am having the exact problem as all of you. Have been on the phone with apple support for a couple of hours today and they made it sound like this was a problem they had never heard of.

I have a 2 month old iMac I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard and my wife has a 3 year old Powerbook G4 12" that I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard. Email was working perfectly fine before the upgrade. We both have a POP email account and a mac.com account. They seem to randomly be unable to either send or receive email. The only email that still works is the same POP and mac.com accounts using Entourage on my wifes Powerbook. To bad, she was really excited about the stationary in mail. At least I am not alone. Hopefully Apple is close to sending out a update to fix this.

What's up y'all? I'm going through the same issue. Funny thing is the first time I installed Leopard I didn't have this problem. After having an "oops" with bootcamp I reinstalled everything. This time everything seems fine except sending mail. I can receive mail, but can't send it. And I'm using the same server for the incoming and outgoing mail. Like everyone else it worked perfectly fine in Tiger.

I'm going to reinstall Tiger ... set up mail ... then up grade to Leopard (again)and see what happens. It worked when I did it in that order last time. When I upgraded to Leopard first then set up mail, it didn't work. Wish me luck ...

I don't have any problems sending but receiving. Mail will let me send mail but will give me the exclamation point indicating that I am offline. Nothing works to get it back online. I click "take all accounts online" and nothing happens.

Additionally, Mail is constantly asking me for my passwords, saying the server rejected it. I click, "save in keychain" but it always comes up blank.

i'm having the same problem - my incoming server cuts out about once a day or more, and the outgoing goes down for days at a time.

also, this may be related, my junk filter's not working - it marks messages as junk but keeps them in the inbox, even though i've tried resetting junk settings and manually setting them to move junk to the junk box. it's really annoying!

i hope these get ironed out ....
