Ok been reading this:

http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/mac-os-x-10-5.ars/4

I am unable to replicate the folder icons. I drag in Movies from my Library and it momentarily shows in the dock and then changes to the generic icon.

Any ideas?

I agree completely.

They've designed all new icons for all the system files and you can't even see the applications folder icon in the dock because it shows the address book icon (which is the first item in the apps folder in most cases).

Poorly thought out. Hopefully they'll consider the feedback everyone's sending and provide better display preferences.

I guess we'll have to put up with it until Panic releases Candy Bar 3 and we can customise.

I've actually removed the all the applications from the dock, except for a couple of apps that launch when you drag and drop onto them (such as DropIcon), and replaced them with a bunch of commonly used folders. I found it very impractical to have to open four or five folders to get to a file that used to be readily accessible through a hierarchal menu. Very slow and cumbersome. Especially when the 'Open folders in a new window' finder preference is deselected but still doesn't work.

I'll never purchase an OS without previously seeing it in operation at an Apple reseller. Whatever happened to useability as the focus of development.

You completely miss my point about being user friendly.

I have owned and used Macs since the early eighties. I have never owned a PC - only had to use one at work. And I am the biggest fan of Apple and what they have achieved - especially since Steve Jobs returned to the company. I HAVE experienced the evolution of Apple and then Macintosh.

My commitment to Apple hasn't wavered. And that says something when you consider I live in Australia which is the last place on the face of the earth to see the latest thing from Apple. We only got the iTunes music store 18 months ago, and won't even get a look at the iPhone until late 2008.

My point is that they have poorly thought out some of the major features of Leopard. I don't want a vista look-alike, I won't a Mac OS that provides a user friendly interface. One that supports both newbies and 25 year veterans like myself who have learned the benefits of an organisational folder structure and appreciated the easy access that comes with hierarchal folders.

Yes, and my point is that regardless of these little flaws, I'm sure Apple will iron them out soon rather than later.

The flaws are not major issues like what we got with IE 5.5/6. Being a CSS developer I know how painful it is to discover bugs and not being able to work with a product that is prepared to fix the problem.

Apple I'm sure will address the issues and polish up the interface.

Now I have never used Vista but I doubt that Apple are going to be copying Windows.
