Updated Firmware, major issue

Hi everyone. I just recently finally ran some updates on my Macbook Pro. I can't remember the exact name and versions of the updates, but I know I did the battery update and the latest firmware update that I beleive came out a month or two ago. I prolonged doing this to make sure it was problem free. This did not work out, as when I restarted my computer after the update, it failed to boot. I got a black screen Darwin/BSD screen asking for my login, then password. I could type in my login but I could not type in any characters for my password. Once I hit enter with no password in it, it brought me to the normal login screen. When I tried to log in with my name and password, it brought me back to the black screen. I ran utility, then did an archive and re-install. The first disk of the reinstall went all the way through, but upon restart, my computer hung up on the white apple loading screen and said I needed to restart. Sorry so long, can anyone help? Thanks in advance. I really don't want to lose my whle hardrive

Hi thomas10!
I guess something has gone terrible wrong with the EFI firmware update.
If you have access to another Mac computer you can get the restore image for the firmware
and burn a restore CD.
I do not know the exact model of your Mac Book Pro so I give you the link to both the Firmware Restoration CD 1.4 and the Firmware Restoration CD 1.3. Only one of the links will apply to you.

The pages contains the instructions and downloads.
