lost printer icon on dock

I have lost the printer icon on my dock. According to the HELP items of what to do, I went to Preferences, then clicked on Printer and Fax. But I can not move on from here. I have selected my printer, but according to the help item, I am supposed to select Printers, but when I do, nothing happens. The Printer window turns blue as long as I hold the curser there, but when I let go, nothing happens. Please help.

If you don't have the Print Queue button, then you can double-click on the printer in the list and this will open the printer queue.

You can also navigate to Applications > Utilities and open the Printer Setup Utility. This will show you the Printer List, where you can also double-click on a printer queue to open the dock icon.

Okay, well that makes things a bit clearer.

First of all, are you definitely using 10.4 (Tiger) or do you have 10.5 (Leopard). I ask because Leopard doesn't have the PSU.

If you do have Tiger, then you will need to get the Printer Setup Utility reinstalled. You will have to download an application called Pacifist. This will let you browse the contents of your OS X disc so that you can install the Printer Setup Utility again.
