Thanks for the reply. Alas, just this is what I would think, too. My problem is, I have many InDesign pages and Docs that could be done more easier with Pages, since they are quite simple - program notes and schedule plans etc. So I would like to transfer those old things to the modern Pages - I would not need Indesign then more or less.

Looks like I have to stick with the recent way...

Ever since Mac Word and Mac PageMaker appeared, there has been rich text interchange. A more advanced method is to use a derivative of ISO 8879:1986 Information processing—Text and office systems—Standard Generalized Markup Language.

Adobe InDesign can export in XML Extensible Markup Language format. Apple Pages supports import of OOXML which is the metadata content model for Microsoft Word 2007. You would need to export from Adobe InDesign into XML (ID3) or OOXML (check ID5).

SGML and XML are heavyweight architectures intended for professional publishing. The idea is to make appearance or stylistics malleable while maintaining content, structure or semantics. Because of the important of SGML derivatives in modifying appearance for alternative devices (e.g. the iPhone and the iPod Touch compared to a MacBook), XML is the scene of strong commercial competition between ODF Open Document Format and OOXML Open Office XML. OOXML is not a finished format, the International Organization for Standardization recently rejected Microsoft's effort to fast track standardization, demanding modifications and clarifications prior to the next international ballot. So, it's not a stable situation.

Best wishes,

Hi, MK,

I am working in Pages, but my project involves at least two graphic designers who use InDesign (and other apps).

The solution we'd found is in using files created in InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop as modular graphic elements in Pages.

1. In pages take exact measurements of text boxes or graphic objects that will go into your Pages document.
2. Create graphic/text files in InDesign that you will be using in Pages and export (or 'Print') them to PDF keeping to the measurements you noted from the Pages document.
3. If you already have the elements you want to use in Pages 'print' your InDesign document to PDF, open it with Preview or Acrobat and select/copy/paste into Pages each element one by one.

That way I can use headers, section or chapter headings with graphic elements that were created in other programmes. This may sound complicated, but I understand you want to recreate your re-usable InDesign documents for repeated use in Pages, so you would only need to do this work once.

Hope this helps

If the InDesign docs are really simple, you can accomplish this with basic cut and paste from ID into Pages. I've done it with letterhead templates and basic newsletter type stuff. If the ID docs are anywhere beyond simple, it's probably best to keep them in InDesign. I suppose I could haul my groceries home on a bicycle if I had to, but if I had a car, well, I'd use the car.
