Just bought new MacBook, set up a .mac account automatically configured when I set up the computer out of the box. Problem is I can Receive Mail, but I can't send any mail. get message 'Port 25 Timed out.' Tried changing to port 587, still can't send mail, but new message "can't recognize addresses.' what's UP ? Is there a system problem. This is new
Try changing port 25 to 587. You also may want to disable SSL for testing purpose (*disabling SSL decreases privacy as all data is being sent unencrypted*). I got a really speed boost for both sending and receiving mail after disabling SSL for both incoming and outgoing mail server.
I'm also having this same problem with my IMAP account. Messages remain in my outbox on Imail and I get the following message, "This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The connection to the server "calmail.berkeley.edu" on port 25 timed out."
When I go to the original host (calmail.berkeley.edu) and send mail, there is no problem. So, it must be with Imail. I haven't had an issue with this until yesterday. Will this be fixed soon?
Where are you when this happens? If home, for example, then your ISP is probably blocking this SMTP on Port 25. Change to Port 587 or if using SSL, perhaps Port 465 would be better.
If connected while on campus, please provide more info.
