Question

Cannot Install HP software (not drivers) for HP L7680 (new) printer

Purchased a new MacBook Pro with Leopard and an HP L7680 printer. The printer is found and added as a printer but the extra software provided on the HP install DVD won't install. I downloaded the latest copy from HP Support and get the same result (it was in fact the same version). The installer asks if I want to install the HP support software and if I respond Yes or No it simply bounces back to the previous screen.

The extra software, at least on Windows, let's me access the scanner, fax, etc. via software.

I tried the same software on a friend's 10.4 G5 iMac and it works fine so this appears to be a 10.5 (or an Intel?) issue.

Anybody have any luck or knowledge of this issue?

No response from HP Support. They are probably overloaded at this point.

A check on HPs website today states "NOTE: Check this website for the upcoming full featured OS X v10.5 HP software suite, including HP Photosmart Studio and HP Photosmart Pro print plug-in for Adobe Photoshop (supported products only)."

No date though. I hope soon.

I've had exactly the same problem. Prints fine but other functions do not work.
I uninstalled the HP software when it would not work and then tried to install again and get the same Yes/No bounce back with no progress. All the functions worked fine in Tiger.

I have contacted HP support - nothing yet but their automated reply. I guess sooner or later they will issue patch or new software to make it work.

Any idea why it doesn't work in Image Capture?

I did the "opening up the HP installer package and manually installing the separate setup applications and sort of trying a forced install" to by-pass the customer participation stall issue and it worked like a charm. I installed everything listed (12 to 15 items). Printing and scanning now work perfectly (knock on wood). I am back in business.

Duh. Good catch. I tried to open the package HP All-in-One Installer but I missed going into Installer/HP Installer and showing the package contents. From there I see a Sub Installers folder with 7 sub-folders. I'll be trying that soon.

Hi, Had the same problem and did the separate install, but the fax functions don't work (scanning, yes). It shows the fax options on the print menu, but doesn't actually set the HP L7680's fax going. Do you have a modem on your Mac so that you would appear be able to fax, but not through the HP?

You want to know why? I'll tell you why. It's because Apple's the new Microsoft. My system was much better off with Tiger - but of course we all get suckered to buy Leopard. And what happens? You're printer doesn't work 100%. I mean, hear me out. I have an HP Photosmart C4280 - why by the way, I PURCHASED FROM AN APPLE STORE! I can almost understand if I had some strange unknown device - but come on! Work with me here! This is so exhausting! I spend $2300 on a computer and all-in-one printer and I can't even scan a measly photo? Do you know how embarrassing it is to have to use my neighbor's (XP) PC to scan my photos? Absolutely disgraceful. If Apple offered me my money back, I wouldn't think twice.

What is this, Vista??

You can wait for HP to support the Leo release, the Win version is ready. Or you can dual boot Tiger and Leo. Works fine.
