iTunes status and AIM users

Hi all!

I'm admittedly not a "seasoned" iChat user (I've used AIM, AOL and ADIUM until recently), so I hope this question isn't something I overlooked.

About 90% of my AIM friends use the AIM (or AOL) client--and of those, the majority are on the PC. When I'm speaking to them via iChat, everything runs smoothly--but I was wondering 2 things:

1) Can those users see my "current iTunes track" status? Is there a simple way to make this happen?

2) on that same note, is there a way to use my current iTunes track as an AWAY message that auto-replies to those AIM users when I am away?

Again, forgive me if this has been asked before, I have been searching the forums, but didn't see my exact question as it related to the current (4.0) version of iChat.

Thanks in advance, everyone 🙂

heh, yeah, PC aim users can see your current song-artist, but they have to be running the latest version of aim, my roomate recently discovered this on his HP and was quite excited...

but to my knowledge there is no way to make that your away message, but then again wouldn't that defeat the purpose? people would then know you really are at your comp and probably send you messages. that could get annoying.

just an opinion.

Ha! Thanks, Atomic--however my AIM friends never seem to see it 😟 I don't know what the problem is.

Oh and about the 'away message' thing: I see your point... I thought it might be a cool idea to have that display when I'm away from AIM, not necessarily away from my computer physically. (I know a users who set their away message to the iTunes status since they have iTunes constantly running in the background).

Anyhow, I'm still a bit puzzled why many users can't see my iTunes status... I guess maybe it's a "version" problem.
