well i know there are many other issues with 10.5 like random menu's not being transparent, but I was wondering if anyone knew if i could get my network location menu back.. I kinda Miss it, and it was very useful when you need 10 different sets of settings for 10 different work sites, as you didn't have to go into sys prefs, you could just click a menu, oh well.
12" G4 1.33 10.4 and 10.5 (depending on my mood),
Mac OS X (10.5)
It wasn't that menu bar. I was talking about when you push: finder, and look at det left where it stands: Units, Shared, places and so on. Where you can find application and so on
Like you, I also REALLY miss the Location option in the Apple menu. As a Systems Administrator for a large company, it's so nice, when troubleshooting a user's computer to be able to check the Ethernet settings via this neat shortcut. It's been available in every version of OS X prior to Leopard and I'm really sorry they removed it. I don't like having to go into the Sys Prefs to get into the network.
They decided to replace LOCATION with DOCK in the Apple menu, which I think was a mistake. Who needs to go into their dock settings that often that it deserves to be in the Apple menu?
Please Apple, give us back our LOCATION shortcut in the Apple menu (or tell me how I can put it back in myself).
I found a fix for the missing LOCATION in the Apple menu. Just create a new location (in addition to the "automatic" location that comes with the OS) and the LOCATION option magically returns.
The Location menu hasn't gone away, it just doesn't appear if you only have one Location set in system Preferences - kind of like 'no reason to switch location when there is only one location available'.
Add a location in System Preferences -> Network and the Location menu will reappear.
