Using Orinoco Gold Wireless card on my PowerBook WallStreet running OS 9.0

Hi:

I need help getting my PowerBook WallStreet to go wireless. I have a Orinoco Gold wireless card which should be plug-and-play but OS 9.0 doesn't know what to do with it. I tried downloading airport for OS 9.0 by copying it onto a zip disc (I don't have a cd drive), but the computer recognises the installer as a "pc" file and can't read it. The same thing happened when I tried to install a OS upgrade via the zip disc. Anyone know what the problem is/ how I can get the wireless card to work?

Hi, sammy -

If you are downloading the software using a PC (Windows machine), be sure that you do not attempt to open or decompress the downloaded file until it has been copied to the hard drive on the Mac.

If you are using a Mac to do the downloading, be sure the Zip disk has been formatted as a Mac disk.

Ok, so I have aiport up and running (2.0.2 on OS 9.0.4), and it recognises my network and says it is connected but the internet still doesn't work. I am not sure why, but Internet Explorer won't load anything. Is airport not recognised as my internet connection by the computer? Does anybody know what I should do to fix this?

Open your TCP/IP control panel. At the top drop down box select Connect via'Airport PC Card' ( there may be another phrase so choose the one that applies to your PMCIA/Cardbus card). Then alter the other dropdown to Configure using 'DHCP Server'. Close the window and save. Then launch browser etc.
