USB Zoom H2 Audio Recorder No Longer Mounts in Leopard

First of all, this device doesn't have any drivers - it's just a simple USB mass storage device and it used to mount without issue in Tiger. However, on BOTH of the machines I've upgrade to Leopard, it no longer works at all. Tried multiple cables. Doesn't even show up in Disk Utility (although it DOES say it is connected in System Profiler and USB prober). Tried pram reset, PMU reset, various macfixit crap suggested for the 10.4.10 USB-breaking update. No dice. Anyone having similar issues, or maybe have a work arround?

Dude. The workaround is this. Go find a Windows computer (even your mac rebooted in windows if you're into that whole BootCamp thing) and download the 1.2 firmware update to windows desktop. Connect your H2 to USB & copy the BIN file to the new device.
Go through the whole restarting/updating procedure described on the ZOOM website (holding play/pause & such).
Eject from windows. Plug into Mac. (or restart in mac-mode) & Shazaam. Leopard recognizes H2.
Took me the last 2 1/2 hours to figure this out.
Happy Recording!

I had the same problem as the original poster (H2 doesn't appear in Leopard).

I tried this suggestion in the last comment...

I used Parallels on my Mac to run Windows Vista. I connect the H2 but it doesn't show up on Windows either.

I also tried connecting it on a Mac that was running OS X 10.4 and it didn't show up there either.

Is there a trick to get it to show up? Any other ideas? Thanks.

I just bought one of these, and was wondering why it wouldn't mount on Leopard. Thankfully I checked the forums and was not the only one having this issue!

Anywoo, I tried the Windows Method b/c I don't have a card reader, and it worked great. I was wondering if it would only work with the 512mb card, but It works great with my 4gb SDHC card 3hrs and 8 minutes of high quality recording!

Hi guys,
i used the tricks you recommended (downloaded the system.bin file from a PC, and tried an older Mac with Tiger, both work).
My problem is that I can't upgrade to version 1.3: Although I restart as described on the website http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h2.php, I don't get the option to upgrading to 1.3, but only to 1.1. The Zoom H2 display looks like:
SYSTEM: 1.10=> **
BOOT: 1.02

And sure enough that version does not mount on Leopard.
Does anyone have a solution to this?
Thanks a lot!

I solved my issue after hours of trial and error:
You can only upgrade the system software on the Zoom H2, when you use an SD card; if your SD card is an SD HC, then it will not work! One option is to use the 512kb SD card that comes with the recorder for the upgrade. Once the Zoom H2 has upgraded the software, you can then switch to a larger capaciy SD HC card.

The sound quality is really good!
Cheers!

I've tried it a bazillion times now. step by step. As the instructions indicated. tried inserting it into my digital camera- which didn't read. otherwise don't have a PC laying around. Each time i am turning on the h2, and on the VERSION UP screen on the H2, instead of saying complete- it says ERROR! does anyone have any advice? Tried it with the 512MB SD card it came with which has a few recorded files on there- as well as with another empty 2.O GB SD card. Please help! Trying to upload the recordings for this project i'm working on!
