iHome Alarm Clocks & 2nd Gen Shuffle

I'm very interested in using my 2nd Gen shuffle for the iHome Alarm clocks I have seen advertised. I seem to be getting conflicting answers regarding if I can use my 2nd Gen shuffle. The one I am most interested in is iHome iH6 Dual-Alarm Clock Radio for iPod. ( http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?spart=TK914LL%2FA)

One part reads "Shuffle port for charging and playing your iPod shuffle" and the next "Patch cord included to connect non-docking iPod models and other audio devices". The picture guide at the bottom only lists the 1st Gen shuffle as being the only shuffle able to be used.

So....can my 2nd Gen shuffle be used with these alarm clocks or not? And if not...why aren't they making the alarm clocks to be used with the 2nd Gen shuffle? (if that part is an allowed question)

That's right... the 1st Gen shuffle's USB connector had extra Apple proprietary connections to enable shuffle to play through, be controlled and charged simultaneously by a device adhering to Apple's interface spec.

2nd gen shuffle can be connected using the patch cord for audio input ONLY.

Yes... 1/ using the patch cord. or
2/ using an iPod dock adapter from Griffin:
Just need to remember to set the switch in either charge or play
position... http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/dockshuffle/

Hope this helps - I asked the manufacturer that question the other day and here is what they said:

"Some of our models have a Shuffle dock that will charge and play a first generation Shuffle, but only charge the second and third generation. Those are iH26, iH31, and iH52."

If anyone knows if the Griffin adapter makes the alarm clock mode work on any of these, please do tell.

I tried to cheap out and get a different alarm clock, an RCA alarm clock with iPod capabilities like the iHome. The Griffin adaptor did work with this alarm clock, but I am returning the alarm clock. (piece of crap) I'll let everyone know when I get what I REALLY wanted and should have gone with-the iHome alarm clock. (and will advise if the adaptor works with it)
