This may be the FBT. It fails because it gets overheated and the insulation between the coils of the transformer breaks down. The clicking that is heard is arcing across the transformer coils.

Of course there are other things that can click in an iMac, but the FBT is certainly one of them. Do you get any flickering or disappearing display problems associated with the clicks?

How long ago did you replace the video? You may well have worn out a second one if it was a number of years ago

One month for this transformer to fail is very poor. I would expect at least three years from it, probably more. Did you solder the transformer onto the board yourself or did you buy a new video board? If you bought a new video board you might want to try and get a replacement. If you replaced the transformer by soldering it onto the board yourself it is possible that you damaged the insulation by excessive heat flowing into the coil wiring during the soldering.

I don't know of any other option for this - it seems to me like you are having the same symptoms I had before I replaced my transformer. The insulation was breaking down and I got clicks as the voltage broke through the degraded insulation. This caused a fluctuation in video display, eventually I had total video failure.

Well i had it done at some repair place here it cost me 80 for the part maybe i should retire the mac it was only used as a music server anyway but would the fbt blow the fuse inside the mac ?? Cause that have happend when the fbt went the last time or so i was led to believe as it just went off no bang no zap nothing just dead so i opened it up and found the fuse broke it had gone black but thanks for the help its the first mac to go on me so maybe i should put him to rest as ive seen them make a nice fishtank lol and its a good few years old to

Yeah, that old fella doesn't owe you anything. My G3 iMac is still going strong running Panther, but I use it mostly as a music server also. When I type on it I can see the letters appearing one by one on the screen well after I've completed a phrase - not blistering performance!

You might find that a repair isn't worth it and may only limp you toward another repair within the year.

Fish tank is an option - or there are some 'headless G3 iMac' modifications out there on the web you could try - using the motherboard and drives with an external monitor.
