Imac G5 panther updates problem

Imac G5 1.8GHZ 768ram.
I tried to update to tiger that did not work kept crashing. so decided to go back to panther.
Well reformated hard drive Installed 10.3 then did 10.3.9 combo update.
Everything was going good till all the other updated started to fail. something about having permissions to write to the /temp folder. What could be the problem.

G5, Mac OS X (10.3.x)

Hi 400exrider!

Did you run Repair Permissions?
Have you run Repair Disk?

Have you tried performing another Erase & Install of Panther 10.3.x?
If not, do that, but run Repair Permissions, before you install the 10.3.9 Combo Update.
Install the Combo, and then run Repair Permissions again.

If the same error message appears, see if the info in this Reply, by Kappy is helpful.
