1008:5,-5000 Access Denied Error/Access Privileges

I am trying to upgrade my macromedia flash player so I went to the website and downloaded the update. However once I try to install it I get these 2 messages when it is almost done: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i72/artsta007/message1.jpg and when I click "OK" I get this: http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i72/artsta007/message2.jpg

I am the admin so I should have full access privileges. Actually this is the only account on this computer. Can anyone help me out here? I did migrate my account from Tiger.

I have solved this problem in the past by re-doing whatever gave me the error as the root user (who has full privileges). Here is how to enable root:

Open NetInfo Manager

Security Menu > Authenticate

Enter in what you need to

Security menu > Enable root user

Enter password for root.

Logout, then login as "other" and put in root, and password. Install/update whatever was giving you the error.

Hope this helps!

It's not daring in the least. All you're really doing is running an app as root to make sure you have all the necessary permissions. The first time I heard about it was from Quark tech support as a means of updating Quark to 6.5 from 6.0. It's very unlikely you'll hurt anything (unless the installer/updater you're launching is poorly written and tries to access files it shouldn't).

Maybe open the terminal and try running the update via the "su" command. Perhaps that will give the updater the necessary privileges.

called it daring because l had used it in the past and messed up big time ... (background: there are so many more levels of complexity in the OS X Administrator/root than in the root of the underlying BSD...)

anyway: no longer exists in leopard.

terminal: not sure how I would run the Office update through /usr/sbin/installer? if so: first unpack the .dmg? or through /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app/Contents/MacOS/Installer ?

Try mounting the .dmg, opening terminal, then cd'ing to the directory that has the installer app (it's probably contained in the .app "directory", as you mentioned earlier).

Once cd'd into the directory, try typing "sudo ./ *" where * is the name of the app. "./" (in my experience) will launch and executable in *nix. I'm pretty sure that works in OS X.

Hope that helps.
