Duplicate names in e-mail

This isn't a big problem but it's very annoying. Different names in my address book like "John Smith" appear as John Smith Smith. This happens to at least two or three random names and I edit them EVERYTIME and still either those names or other names suddenly appear in the mail window with a double last name. As I mentioned, it doesn't affect anything but it looks rather stupid when I send mail to somebody with a double last name. This hapens over and over agian no matter how many times I edit the names correctly in my address book. The next day the same names or different ones will have two last names.

iMAC G5 20", Mac OS X (10.4.9), the usual stuff!

I posted my question about dupicate addresses on the mail and address book forum but I haven't gotten an answer in over a month. It seems that whenever I send an e-mail to someone it permanently doubles the last name of the person. For instance, if I send an e-mail to John Smith, my address book suddenly reads John Smith Smith. The e-mail also goes through to the other person in the same way.
So if I send out five e-mails, I have to go to my address book and delete the second last name of five names. It's getting very annoying. But the problem continues to happen everytime I send an e-mail.
I'm using a POP account, mail version 2.1. That's all I know about my mail account. My e-mail address comes from my Road Runner service. Sorry I can't be more specific about my mail account.

Dylanmusic,

Have you ever synced it in the past? Did you rename, move or delete your Application Support folder, Library folder or SyncServices folder? If so that could have caused the issue as discussed in this article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301920

Also sometimes software will sync with it without letting the user know. Do you have Entourage installed? If so, in its preferences turn off the sync services options. After making that change in Entourage, or if you don't have Entourage: Open iSync, go to Preferences and click on Reset Sync History.

Make the corrections to your address book and they should not get changed again.

If they get changed again, back up your Address Book entries, or export them to vCard before we troubleshoot further.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.
