I have had the same problem. I have had my LCD replaced twice now. I have had my MBP for just over a year now and I am noticing the spots returning. As I bought my computer for graphics (as I imagine a majority of people who are new MBP owners have for CS3) it is untolerable. Fortunately I purchased the Apple care, and so I am guessing that the next repairs should be covered, however I am very frustrated that this is happening again. The guys at the repair place I go to (in Minneapolis, First Tech) said it has something to do with there being "dust under the LCD". I too use a screen protector between keyboard and screen when my mac is closed and also have a padded (made by apple) travel case.

I am wondering if anyone has had there macs replaced because of this? How many times will they fix a computer suffering the same problems over and over again before they replace the whole thing?

Hey, I've got something similar happening with my display (I think). My spots are not black, per se, but grey, and show up all around the middle of the display like splotches or smudges. When I asked at a Mac store about this (and also an Apple Care rep.) they said I must have done something to it myself—i.e., self-inflicted trauma, etc. I assured them this wasn't the case, as I take better care of my MBP than I do my wife (her words, not mine). I remember screen recalls on the old Powerbook G4s with something similar, but I guess this hasn't been happening enough for them to care about us yet. Let me know if you find anything else out.

I had the same spots growing in the bottom left corner on my 2.16 C2D MBP so I took it into a Apple store. They called the whole gang over to see it as none of them had ever seen it before. Eventually they conceded that I had not damaged the computer and that the spots were growing on the underside of the display. Thankfully they swapped the entire display out under apple care. Like the OP mine is about 11 months old and my apple care is up in 2 weeks.

Hi.
I´ve the same problem.
Grey and black spots on the center of my MBP 15" C2D, I got my display changed twice now, and the spots keep appearing. The also come with areas with discoloration on the screen.
I got my display changed last 3 weeks ago, and spots are back again.
I´ll ask for a mac replacement, since nobody is solving my problem.

Hi All,

Same story here... small blotch and still in my 90 days. I just got back from my Mac store and they ordered a replacement display. No questions asked. Curious to see if it'll happen again and wondering if the blotches are always in the middle of the display, or also along the edges? Maybe it's not such a good idea to have the MBP in messenger bag anyway...

Hi guys, I've had my MBP for about 16 months and same issue. I just got a replacement screen, they promised a glossy screen to replace the matte one, (since apparently they were out of them for about 3 wks, and they called me to see if I wouldn't mind a glossy one which I accepted) yet when I picked it up, I got a matte one back. One funny thing, when I picked it up, a report was also given and my 1Gig 3rd party RAM removed (which I had installed when I purchased my MBP) and it was running smoothly without problems before taken it in to apple. They reported that my memory was causing problems, yet I never had a problem. I wonder if the memory was the one to blame for the grey spots and if all they did was remove it and grey spots are gone???? anyone that can share some light to this mistery???? please help... also, does this puts fear on having to use only apple ram???

My 17" MBP (matte) has 2 "groups" of several small dark spots (more like smudges), each group located about 2" below the top and about 3" toward the center from each side of the display. They are really only visible against a solid background, and each spot is roughly 1/8" in diameter.

I'm pretty sure (in my case at least) that it's not related to heat, and I have never applied any pressure to the screen.

Has anyone been able to figure out what the root cause is, and if there's anything that can be done besides replacing the display (which isn't working for a lot of people apparently)?

Thanks
