Thats the same thing thats been happening to my monitor (a 21" Studio Display monster). It just got sicker and sicker, to the point it just turned black and wouldn't turn on at all. My repair shop said it was more likely my computer, so i brought that in. My G3 ended up being sick, actually declared dead, and so I had to buy a new one (I got a G5) got that set up and my monitor turned on again just fine, but then started flickering again, then and now doesn't even turn on. It tries, and is popping, but stays black.
I finally turned here and saw your post. I also saw the posts for horizontal squeeze which seem like the same problem, and woof! It seems like these 21" displays are all going at the same time. So I'm wondering, too. Time for a new one? Tough to kiss 1500 bucks good bye.

I'm having a somewhat similar problem. The CRT screen on my G3 iMac periodically turns off, and then after 2-3 seconds turns on again without any intervention on my part. This started happening about a month ago.

My iMac at nearly 7 years old, is one of the original models. It operates at 233 mHz, 96 MB RAM(originally 32 MB), and OS 9.2.2. There were no recent installations of either hardware or software when the problem first surfaced.

I wonder if this behaviour signifies the impending demise of th monitor. Any auggestions? Any advice?

My Studio 21 failed 1yr and two weeks after I bought it, (no apple care DOH!) the Main deflector board failed. I was livid to say the least, but, what could I do? I've held onto it in hopes of one day getting it fixed (very very low hours on the CRT)

Two weeks ago I ended up with another, very used, studio 21 it worked until last night. Now it takes about 10-15 min to slowly 'warm up' and display an image. I'm hoping the issue is not related to the deflector board, because I'm going to pull it out of that monitor and put it into my origional studio 21... 🙂 I may also have a 3rd one coming (also very very used, these are former prepress monitors that were run 12-14hrs a day since new)

that being said, if anyone needs a part for their studio 21 lemme know, otherwise I'll send the one monitor's carcas to the dump after I scavange the deflector board...
