New Mac User - Changed Short Name - Lost admin password - Need Help
Background - PC user using a MAC for the first time (<3 hours now). The short name was named after the first owner of the machine, and my stubborn personality wanted to change it.
So I did. I went to user System Preferences > Accounts > My Account and unlocked to authenticate. From that point, I went to the Advanced Preferences and changed the short name and short name root folder. I am guessing at this point, because I cannot access these menus any longer.
That process did exactly as I had read in a few threads on the net. It locked me out of my admin account. My previous password no longer works to authenticate and log in.
Automatic Login is disabled (whew), but I still do not want to turn the machine off since the user password is not going to work to log me back in.
I need advice on how to regain access to my admin account, possibly create a new account (temp) to ensure I can log in, and also how to change the Home Folder name once I get all this straightened out.
I am a dummy, I know. Please help.
