OK, I have been trying to get my 2100 to connect to the internet with no connection. I have a 3com megahertz 56K pc card for modem. what other software, I have downloaded 300 MB of stuff for my 2100 but I need to get e-mail and internet also.
I also have SBC Global internet but there is no settings for it , I tried the IP address to no avail, How slow is the 2100 to bring up information?
Since you are using a modem card to attempt to get online, are you using a dialup ISP? If you have broadband, you can use a ethernet pcmcia card with your newton.
If you are trying to use a wireless card, it isn't natively supported by the Newton. You have to have special drivers to get them to work. Even then, it only works with a somewhat small assortment of cards.
You can probably use Google to find the location of the drivers.
What you want to do is pretty basic along with getting your Wifi card to work.
It takes time searching out the drivers for your modem. I just checked the WIKInet and most of what you want to do is there as well as links to drivers. I'm not sure about that particular Orinco card but there is a list about which cards work and which ones that don't.
If you have a wireless card your problem is solved!
Heres what youll need:
Drivers

Software:

This will be all you should need for your newt. Look for a different browser than webhopper as well. Alot of pages wont display.
There are online articles about how to sync wirelessly as well. go forth and Newt!
I have had inconsistent results with a LAN connection for the Newton (3Com 589E). Sometimes it will work under DHCP, sometimes only under a manual setup - no idea why.
Make sure you have all the correct drivers and NIE2 with the packages loaded in the correct order..
Have a look at
http://www.pda-soft.de/ethernetconnectivity.html or ttp://www.chuma.org/newton/ethernet/.
I'm now using a wireless internet connection which is reliable, but you will need software (shareware $10) and only certain cards will work.
