Q: iPod Radio Remote with ipod Touch / iPhone

Hi,

Could someone post details of when this device will work with a touch / iPhone. I'm just about to get my iPhone here in the UK and one feature i like on my SE phone is the radio, why oh why did apple not add it from the word go. Anyway if anyone knows that they are adding it in a future firmware upgrade please post; this is a feature that would sway my purchase decision.

I too am waiting for the Radio Remote to be compatible with the Touch, if it isn't made compatible soon, I may start leaning towards getting a Zune 2 instead of a Touch... I find myself listening more to the radio than my actual music collection, so do a lot of other people.

As an alternative you could try the Griffin iFM:

The Griffin web page indicates that it's compatible with the Touch. Though it's too bulky for my tastes for a feature that should be built-in to every iPod by now.

I would buy one if radio was an option, but cant imagine having a PMP without radio its always nice to have when you get tired of your music library.

I just sent feedback into apple about this not being supported. I encourage all of us to send in feedback as well. The more they get the better chance we have of getting it.

There is another third party iPod Radio Remote that I found that works with my iPhone. The only thing is that the numbers of the radio stations do not show up on screen, but the radio function still works. The iPod remote function also works, skip track forward and back, and volume up and down controls iPhone volume and volume on-screen display:

Anyone tested their Apple Radio Remote with 1.1.3 ?? The apple site still shows this accessory as compatible with all ipods except shuffle.

Just tried it on my iPod touch after upgrading to 1.1.3, and it does NOT work. chalk up another disappointment for today.

Thanks for letting me know. I don't understand why they'd do this. It seems like they could do something really cool with the big screen. I keep thinking it's an oversight somewhere, especially since the web site says it should work. I'm still hoping...

the 3 reasons I think a radio isn't built in are:

1.to keep the size down (silly I know just a guess*)
    2. By needing the remote plugged In,it ensures the remotes lead will act as an ariel (like most mobile phones headphones do these days)
3.the most imoptant one here- so apple can charge £30 for somthing that did come in the box! (owners of iPod photos & earlyer gens know what I'm talking about!)

    * I think the actual radios hardware is built into the remote & the software to make it work hasn't been included yet in firmware for the touch and iphone,i own both and I do feel that apple rushed the firmware to get them in the stores, but thats really not the issue.

    4. So those of us who do not want to listen to the vast wasteland of terrestial radio in the US don't have to pay for one.

Actually, while I agree that terrestrial radio is terrible, I'd guess that the reason you're not going to see the radio remote as an option on the iPod touch is that the WiFi isn't exactly a good match when trying to tune in FM radio.

I'm also pretty sure the FCC would have something to say about too many antennas on a device.

Why would you want to turn your expensive iPod touch into a radio, anyway? You can just as easily pick up a little FM radio at a dollar store that is smaller than an iPod shuffle and doesn't drain your touch/iPhone's battery. Radios are cheap and tiny these days.

It doesn't work with the 1.1.4 update either. Really disappointed that the Radio Remote doesn't work with the iPhone/touch. I mean, come on.

Any sign of it working with the dev kit 2.0 firmware?
Please Apple, make the radio remote work on my iPhone!
If the radio remote would work on my iphone, I could leave the ipod connected in the car on my Mini Cooper ipod adapter.
