stereo output 1-2 missing

My stereo output 1-2 track is missing in Logic 8. I can create new audio tracks but it won't allow me to make it the output 1-2 stereo sum (it's not even included in the list) any idea why that is?

Intel Mac 2,66 Logic 7.2.3, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I wonder if this is connected to the weird behavior I ran into yesterday - the inserts disappeared on my stereo output. Read another thread here which directed me to find the "PreListen" channel in the mixer/environment and see if it has been assigned to surround output. Mine had - though I'm still not sure why (probably because I was using the film score template).

Switching the PreListen track back to stereo output gave me a normal Stereo 1&2 out again.

Very odd. You'd think there'd be a master setting somewhere in the "song settings" file to make the session either stereo or surround. It's klunky that the "PreListen" track mysteriously holds the key to the output format of the entire session ⚠.

Anyway, hope that helps.

It's not that the PreListen track has control over whether you'll jump into surround. Any track output that is set to surround will put Logic into surround mode.

Make a template with the PreListen track set to stereo.

Thanks for the heads up. But the project I was working on WAS in stereo, then switched to surround without my knowing. My guess is I must have inadvertently loaded a channel strip preset with a surround output? Either way, that doesn't seem like an ideal method for Logic 8 to work. Switching the output format of the entire project shouldn't be something that happens in the background without asking the user 'yes or no'.
