iTunes keeps asking me to register iPod Touch

Hi,

Just got a brand new iPod Touch today for my birthday. It is a thing of beauty - the device itself seems to work fine and I had no problem connecting up to iTunes, registering the product with my AppleID and syncing my music library to the device.

For info, I'm running Windows XP Home on a Dell Dimension PC. I've used iTunes for years with an iPod mini. Before connecting the Touch, I downloaded and installed the latest version of iTunes (7.5.0.20). Even though I've always used iTunes with a different iPod, it recognised my new device and sync'd my library to it (which is what I wanted it to do).

Trouble is, each time I reconnect the Touch to the computer, when iTunes starts up it comes up with the product registration screen again. If I go through this process and put in my Apple ID, it asks me the same questions - update profile information, say which country I'm in, what age range I'm in etc. - it accepts it and then the Touch and its contents show up in iTunes no problem. But still every time I connect up it comes up with the registration screen. Oh, and the same thing seems to happen irrespective of whether I open iTunes before or after the Touch is connected, and irrespective of whether the Touch is on or off when I connect it.

I've tried the "5 Rs" on the Apple support website - no difference. I'd rather avoid having to completely uninstall iTunes unless it's really necessary, as I don't really want to have to rebuild my music library again.

I will be very, very grateful if someone can help me out with this.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

The same problem here too.
I'm using an iMac with iTunes 7.5 under Leopard. I've tried to register it manually and i've got an error that my serial number was not found, strange !http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/konfus/a015.gif!
I'll wait a little bit. It could be that "THEY" have a little problem in their databases.
Nevertheless this gadget works fine. The best technical thing that I ever had !

Not a solution, but a small update: after registering for about the fifth time, the next time it came up with the registration screen, I clicked the "never register" button. Whether my product is in Apple's database or not, I have no idea, but at least I've stopped that registration screen popping up every time. Would be nice if Apple could sort this out though, as I really would quite like to register the product properly.

Maybe this is a problem with iTunes 7.5.0.20 as this is a definite pattern between all the people on this thread. As it appear to affect all OS's and all iPod's as I have a new iPod Nano and it is doing the same thing.

Most likely iTunes 7.5.0.20 is not registering the product properly but it seems that it might still be able to detect previously registered products. So in that case maybe try using a previous version of iTunes, if possible, which may overcome this problem. I have not tried it out but if it is tested could someone post if it does/n't works, Thankyou.

Hopefully Apple will take notice of this a fix the new bug in iTunes.
