safari can't open the page because it can't find the server,no e-mail,
no weather,no map and no you tube. it seems like eadg is completely out
of service.
What can i do. Please. Help...
If your having this problem while connected to a wifi network, here's a couple of things to check out.
from the home screen choose settings->wifi.
There should be a check mark on the left of the network you are connected to.
tap on the blue circle with the arrow on the right side of the iphone.
Make sure you have an ip address.
Also, make sure there is a dns address also.
The dns should be different from the router address.
If the dns is the same as the router, or the dns is blank.
try forgetting the network in the iphone then power off the iphone.
Now power down your wireless router for a full 2-3 minutes.
power the wireless router back on.
once the router is powered back up, turn on the iphone and try to connect to the wireless network again.
I have experienced the same problems (i.e. not working- youtube, google maps, any yahoo page and others). I took Damon M's advice except I took a different tack... I went to the wifi settings as described and found that the ip and DNS did match. However, listed after the matching addresses in the DNS line, were other addresses (perhaps ones my router had assigned my iphone). So if you see other addresses, just delete the ip address form the DNS line and restart your iphone. It worked right away. A big thank you to Damon for the answer. It was invaluable in getting my iphone connected. Also I wish to add that there are a lot of interface issues in the forum which seem could benifit from Damon's solution. Please share it with others
Also I've found that my iPhone will only work reliably with wi-fi if the router it connects to is set to 802.11b or '802.11b & 802.11g' mode but NOT if connected to 802.11g only mode.
Thanks much, Macination -- removing the "192.168.1.1" from the dns line (which, as you suggest, was a dns entry added by the router) worked like a charm.
I can confirm some of the other posts about deleting other DNS addresses. My WiFi connection was working then, for no particular reason it stopped. I'd "forget" the network, find it again and retype my password and whilst everything seemed fine I still couldn't connect in Safari.
After checking the DNS settings on my 16gb iPod Touch I noticed a extra IP address had been added, making it different from that on my PC. I deleted this extra address and everything was back to normal again. I have no idea where the extra address came from or if it'll come back to haunt me, but for now I'm back in business.
that was top advise. I had that exact problem and looked on this site to find a solution. The first one i came to was yours and it worked wonders. Thankyou
I have a 8G iPod Touch. The internet has been working for a few days but now it has just stopped. It comes up with the 'cant find the server' thing even though in settings it says it is connected to the network. i dont have a dns.. how do i get one?
Damon M - You are a star. I was having problems connected to my wi-fi network, and the Router and DNS fields in the wi-fi network settinbgs were blank. You're advise sorted the problem! Thank you so much
OK lets not confuse matters here I am not talking about connecting to WIFI, I am talking about connecting through the edge network and yesterday it stopped doing that. The internet apps on my iphone like weather and stock quotes error out and safari says "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server" no matter what page I try to go to. Its like it can't find the data network on AT&T. I am able to sms text people and make calls. I have tried hard resetting it several times and confirm that attaching to a WIFI hotspot works to get to the internet. I can also confirm that doing a restore on the phone doesn't fix the issue. Is AT&T having data connection issues or is my iphone belly up?
Just to let you all know I just got off the phone with iPhone and ATT tech support and ATT data networks have been down around the country most of the day which explains my problem. Only question is why this isnt showing up around the web or on here as a big story?
And my question about do you have WiFi turned off was because I found that if I had WiFi turned on but didn't have access to a connection, it seemed to try and fail on WiFi and not try to connect via EDGE. If I turn WiFi off, it defaults to EDGE and connects fine.
Anybody else ... am I dreaming this?
And you're right... why isn't there more about it? I've had no trouble connecting via EDGE all day.
