no sound on ipod touch

My ipod touch does not play any alarm clock or timer sound. Under settings/general/sound effects, I have chosen "both" for speaker and headphone. For both the alarm clock and timer I chose "checkmate" as the sound effect. The touch does not play a sound at the time set on the alarm clock or when the timer ends. Does any one have a suggestion to fix this problem. knothead

Hi, i have the same problem. Tried any way but nothing. HELP! By the way. Do you know if it is possible to use the speaker to hear music or just the earphones? Thanks

The "speaker" isn't really a speaker, it's a small device than can only generate one sound - the click. The alarm sounds, music, etc., all use the headphone port.

no no, the first time I tried the alarm or counter, at the end of the timer ipod sounds from external speakers the sounds...zzzz..or..tiktiktik...
now my ipodT (original as factory default) don't give me sounds by long time...
I have to try the upgrade...

Mine was doing that also and I just held the sleep button down and turned it off and back on. That did the trick.

The ipod doesn't have a speaker. AS far as know you have to use an external speaker device such as the earbuds or a speaker designed for the ipod. Thanks any way for the reply. Knothead

The sleep button is on the top left of the iPT. The same button you hold down until you get the red slider on screen to completly shut down the iPT. If you just press this button once the screen will go dark - this is the iPT in sleep mode. If you are listening to music when you press this the song will stillplay. It's really just a way of conserving battery power.

Bought my itouch today and the same thing no sound from alarm or count down, if i jack in headset your can hear it. Seams wrong as when i change the sound you hear it !! this must me a fault, i'm woundering if its the same on the iphone...

Many thanks Fiveby5ive. Your sugestion solved the problem. Sound works fine now. I feel like a cementhead for having to ask you were the on/off button is. I need to read the manual closer. I'll download a copy. You now know why my online name is knothead.

you may need to change your setting. go to settings/general/sound effects/and click on both. Try your sounds again.

I am having the same issue. I have shut down my Touch many times since I bought it and the alarm is not making any sound; sure I could shut it down and the alarm may then work, but for how long? I'd hate for it to not work again when I am depending on it to catch a flight etc.

Surely this is a bug?

Actually, the alarm DOES sound through the iPod touch speaker, except that it will randomly stop working. The speaker DOESN'T "only play the click sound". It plays whichever sound you select for the alarms, too.

Something in the firmware is causing the external alarm sounds to not function, after you've plugged connected the IPT to its USB cable. It has an external speaker (besides, requiring headphones to hear an alarm would be completely insane and defeat its purpose).

My alarm worked fine for days, but one day it randomly stopped working.
