CD Burning

I have a Beige G3 with a RevA or Rev1 Rom..........it has a CD ROM drive installed in Internal ATA 1.......

On the System Profiler it is ID'd as:

CD-ROM drive
Driver version: 1.4.7
Mac OS partitions: 1
Removable media: Yes
Vendor: MATSHITA
Revision number: ZS20
Product ID: CD-ROM CR-585
Apple disc burning: supported

Am i correct in assuming that disc burning is supported, but not with this type of CD drive? Does it have to be replaced with a CD-RW drive? What else would I have to do in order to burn CD's?

PLease pardon my ignorance. Any help here is appreciated.

Yes, you need a burner. You can easily replace the CD with a burner. You need to be sure the burner you get is bootable, since it will be your only optical drive. You can get a CD/RW, a CD/RW DVD combo or a DVD/RW. Your best bet might be to get an Apple ROM drive on eBay; that way you don't have to worry about bootability or support. Besides looking on eBay, here's some other links to try:
