Windows XP Sp2 Installation

Hrm, when i install windows xp on my mbp, with a legit key. When i go to install sp2 (to install the leopard drivers) it gives the error that there is no space left, and that the instaler needs more than 4mb of space.

I have reinstalled it over 5-6 times, and still no luck.

Help?

I'm having this same problem as well. Brand new macbook pro with leopard installed.

currenlty making the switch from pc to mac... and i have a legit windows xp home edition cd and my own valid key.

Installed windows xp with bootcamp with 5gbs partition... now iwth ~1.4GB free on the partition. Still says it needs 4mg of space even though I freed up additional space.

Anyone have any hints?

This must not be a new glitch, up to my 7th reinstall (with a different disk each time), tryed a new key, all of them legit, still nothing.

BUT.

I managed to get sp2 to install once (no leopard drivers without sp2 btw) by making the uninstall location illicit (deleting it while it was installing) but alas, blue screen of death at the next boot.

Apple, if you are hearing this, please help us. This is starting to get on my nerves. I can do nothing with the doze until this is fixed.

Help?

I have been using macs for years, and nothing like this has come up, i blame windows.

EDIT: It seems to be only with santa rosa? Surely this is a new glitch.

OK, i got it. The 'good way' is as follows. THis is for if you do not have a XP SP2 Disk.

Make a tiny xp partiiton, say 5gb, install xp to this partition, when it asks you for what partition, say to format the bootcamp one as 'ntfs quick". Now, slipstream your install disk (htere are heaps of tutorials out there) re-burn your disk, boot install and enjoy!

Haha, that freaked me put, i forgot i signed it with my real name.

Well, that puts a spin on it ey, after posting the above, i attempted it boot, and i get the same error that you got.

Looks like i am back to square one again. I guess checking before posting would have ben a good idea.

ED: I hope this is brought to the attention of apple, this is stupid that we have to fix it ourselves.

Well, what slipstreaming is, is changing your normal xp cd (eg, WXPOEM_EN, or other) into a bootable windows xp sp2 cd. This requires windows to be be done, got around it by installing windows into vmwre (you could just do a normal install into bootcamp i guess) and then burning it too a cd.
If you need some instructions, i will post here.

Otherwise google for it, what flavor od xp cd do you have now?

There is a solution to this and many other Boot Camp install issues. You need to format the hard drive via Windows Recovery Console (requires an actualy Windows XP SP2 disc.) See the thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5781443&#5781443 for details. I formatted my HD via Windows Recovery Console and the install proceeded uneventfully. Hopefullly this helps!
