Ipod nano in recovery mode?

Hi

I recently purchased an ipod nano (3rd generation), I downloaded itunes onto my pc using windows XP, when I connected my ipod to my pc to transfer songs, itunes came up with the following message:

"itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes"

it then prompted for itunes to restore to factory settings, once this was complete it then updated the software, however after that was complete the original message above came up

so I basically cannot use my ipod as I cannot transfer any music to it, has anyone had this happen to them or should I just take it back to the shop?

*it tells you how to restore to factory settings but I did nt see any info on what to do re my recurring message or have I missed it?*

Yes you have. Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive

I have changed the letter in Admin Tools several times to the iPod and restarted the computer, with no luck. Now the iPod in frozen and check mark with ok to disconnect. This is my second one in as many days. Do not know any ohter solutions for this but to return if I cannot get fixed. I have used iTunes and iPod on this computer in the past with the first version of nano came out. Please help.

I have called the support number and was very helpful. I have been changing the letter is admin Tools to the wrong letter. The support person instructed to changed to the letter X and than restart the PC. This fixed the problem. I had changed the letter the first time to I than to G wtih no luck. Thank you support line.
