Telnet to an email address

Hi there,

If the account does not require secure authentication, then you can try the following:

telnet your.server.com 110
(after the banner is displayed)
user you_username
pass your_password

Then you can enter pop3 commands. When done type quit.

p.s. If secure authentication is required, it becomes more difficult, but not impossible.

Can't telnet to an email address . You can telnet to a mail server.

bash# telnet server 25

... will connect to a mail server, it there's one listening. It will expect you to speak fluent SMTP.

You can also telnet to a POP3 server.

telnet server ORIP 110

If you want to learn more about such protocols, you should read the relevant RFCs (request for comments).
