Disk Utility fails to launch

I'd tell you to repair your disks permissions, but it appears you can't do that.... The printer problem I know is caused by a permissions error, but the disk utility one is new to me....

I'm not quite sure what to do.....

Try trashing the Icon, for Disk Utility in the dock, and putting a new one there (by dragging it to the dock). Perhaps, somehow, the Icon is no longer tied to that app.

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.

Hi, I'm having the same problem. Every time I launch Disk Utility it says that it 'quit unexpectedly'

I ran the unix executable in the terminal and the startup gave this output:

Is this a permission problem in the /usr folder with this dylib file? I'll try to restart in Safe Mode as suggested now.

Tried the disk repair as you posted in the link... no luck. Now I don't even get a bouncing icon in the dock... nothing at all happens. In the meantime I've formatted my external drive on my husband's mac... his utility is working.
