What kind of device are you trying to hook up to your PowerBook? I ask because I have never heard of the connector you are looking for. That isn't to say it doesn't exist, just that I don't know it. The usual way to hook a USB device to a PowerBook is to use a PCMCIA card.
Hi, can anyone help me... I am trying to find out where i can get hold of a scsi to usb adapter for a G3/233 Powerbook. They are the ones with the square shaped connection!!!

First, I want to make sure what we're talking about here. Do you mean that your PowerBook has a large square port with many little holes in it? If so, then you have a 'Wallstreet' series PowerBook. The 'Lombard' has both the square SCSI connector AND USB already, but it didn't come in 233MHz, so I'm assuming that's not it. And the older 'Kanga', which also had the square SCSI, but no USB, didn't come in 233MHz.
So, assuming you have one of these 'Wallstreet' series, then the only way to add USB is to get a PC Card adapter. This will be a card (about the size and shape of a credit card, only thicker,) that slides into the side of your computer. These cards are available in many forms, including combo USB 2.0/FireWire cards, which will bring you into the fully modern era, connector-wise. 🙂
There is no device that can convert the square SCSI connector into a USB connection. There are only devices that go the other way. (To hook, for example, a SCSI hard drive up to a no-SCSI, USB-only computer such as an iMac, or a newer PowerBook like the 'Pismo' which replaced SCSI with FireWire.)
Hopefully this helps!
I have a wallstreet 300 mgz powerbook and am trying to get a pc card to at leat get usb and firewire if possible. The cards I have tried are not working (2 belkin...) the compatible powerbook list on one of the pc cards from Belkin said it was compatible with all but my 300 version? Thought this was odd...?
Several say they will work and haven't. Does anyone know of one that will work on this unit?

HI -- I have a black Wallstreet G3 PB ( I thought it was a Lombard but someone here said it would have USB if it was Lombard and mine doesn't).
There is an old PCI card in it, but I don't remember what kind of card it is.
And I can't see/remember how to remove it. Any ideas?
Am awaiting powercord so I can power it up

PS Any ideas on whether/how OS X can work on this old heavy machine?

David,
You can remove a PC card from the PCMCIA/CardBus card slot by pressing one of the buttons directly above the card (although it probably needs power) or by dragging the PC card icon on the desktop to the Trash (when it's running) or by opening a strong paperclip and pushing it into the little hole next to the PC card.
You may wish to head over to the Powerbook Discussions > Powerbook G3 for topics related to the Wallstreet and newer. Apple has made it difficult for users by separating the original Powerbook G3 M3553 (Older Hardware) from the Powerbook G3 Series M4753 and newer (Powerbooks > Powerbook G3).
There are several posts regarding OSX on the Wallstreet and here are a few to read:
