What if I gave someone in Brazil my username and password, they logged into itunes, shopped around and added songs to the cart, and began download of those songs? Since I'm an American citizen, and my credit card info is usa based, etc., would the person in Brazil still nto be able to download? I mean, wouldn't they still block the downlod because they determine that the IP address is coming from Brazil? I'm not so sure it's simply credit card and licensing issues. I mean, if I'm traveling to Brazil, log into itunes, download songs using my USA credit card etc. I think the download will simply not work because I'm physically in Brazil. Period. This has been the case with popular video download services etc. I'm an American with the same account info and credit card info I always use in the States. But by me simply traveling and physically being located in Brazil, I'm still not allowed to download! So I understand the cpyright, licensing and credit card billing address stuff. But I think people should also also mention that no matter how you're setup credit card wise etc., you must also be physically in the country that you're trying to download from.
I haven't tried this with itunes yet, but i cant imagine it working for itunes either.
When I travel to Brazil, virtually every web-based application I have access to in the United States stops working, i.e. popular video download services etc. I can get to all of these sites just fine, but upon login to the sites, they tell me that the application is only available for use within the United States.
I even heard that even though you can buy an iPod in Brazil, there's no access to buy songs from iTunes:
search online for the itunes in brazil petition.
So even though there's an Apple Brasil website, there's not an iTunes for Brazil!
So here's my question: If I were to buy an iPod in the United States and also buy a Subscription, redeemable points, or whatever gift, would I be able to buy and listen to songs from the iTunes store while I'm traveling in Brazil?
One would assume yes. But I think this is one of the industry's best-kept secrets. For example, if your girlfriend goes to school in another country, and you visit her with an electronic gift like an iPod, there's a strong chance that gift won't work with the iTunes site.
I asked some people about the iPod once thinking that I was wrong. They were very confused when I asked them; but when they returned with an answer from several supervisors, they told me some sorta crazy workaround about buying an iPod in US using a Brazilian credit card, or vice-versa, and it would work. I forget what they said, but it was such a hassle that I tuned out.
Is there a restriction preventing me from purchasing an iPod for people who live outside of the United States which will prevent them from connecting to the iTunes store? I know they can connect to the Internet, and they can own and use the iPod; but does iTunes store allow downloads and purchases from outside the United States, specifically Brazil?
Again, sounds like an easy "Duh! yes!" But before you answer with a guess, note that if the iPod does allow this for Brazil, it would be the FIRST time I've heard or seen this work for such a service. I would LOVE it...but, something so simple has proven to not be the case. Remember, popular sites for video downloads and other popular international sites do NOT work in Brazil, meaning they do not allow the downloads and display a message saying "service not allowed or authorized for use in Brazil."
HELP!
