I am also having difficulty getting my touch to show in iTunes or showing as a USB device or in My Computer. Using the same USB port and same cable my iPod nano works fine and is recognized in iTunes.

I have reinstalled iTunes, check and rechecked Article: 61711 and Article: 306640 to no avail and plugged into every USB port I have. The iPod touch does work on a friends computer so something is amiss in my computer but what? (Note my friends computer seems to think the touch is a camera.)

Very frustrated and anxiously await some advice.

Ok people after messing up three days with my jailbroken ipod touch cauze my itunes didn't recognize it i figured out that the problem is first windows recognized it as a imaging device o as a camera, i found in the device manager was listed mi apple ipod under portable devices and there was the problem it has to be listed under universal serial bus controllers named as a apple ipod so this is what i did but first make sure u have correctly installed itunes and the apple mobile device support:

1 open the device manager or windows button + r is run and then type devmgmt.msc

2 look for the portable devices and find the apple ipod or wherever that is listed on your pc.

3 once u find the apple ipod do a right click on it and click on uptade driver software

4 take the manualy opcion or browse on my computer and then look for this folder on your computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

there should be the driver that itunes recognize and your windows wont recognize your ipod as a camera again but i repeat u have to make sure u have installed the apple mobile device support u can get it by extracting the itunes+quicktime package using winrar. so click on update or next what ever on the update process and next time itunes will open your ipod for sincying thanks to forums ilounge.com

u dont need to switch usb ports is anyone has questions about ipod touch in general or itunes please email me at hackedl@hotmail.com or linkabc1@aim.com
there is a comunity for free sftware wich i'm on it and is for helping people i had the same problems and with itunes and the rolling back installation of the apple mobile device support so i hope u solve your problems

My problems seem to be solved by first restoring the iPod. (Shut it off -- press sleep/wake + slide to power off -- then, open iTunes, press and hold the "Home" button and connect it to the computer while pressing and holding Home.)

The restore completed successfully but only when I consulted the document "Error 1604 When restoring iPhone in iTunes" ( http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307007). Basically I had to disconnect my USB devices and connect the iPod to a port in the back of the computer. Once restored the iPod was recognized in iTunes. I reconnected all my USB devices and -- viola -- the iPod touch seems to be alive and recognized by iTunes.

Time for a glass of wine (and some music)!
