Hi,
The
technical specifications page for the LC 580 is somewhat confusing, since it is based upon a PPC-upgraded machine. If you have the standard (non-PPC) computer, it should be possible to start from a Network Access Disk 7.5 floppy (
here). Once the .bin file has been decoded/decompressed, use
Disk Copy 4.2 (the Make A Copy button) to convert the resulting disk image to a floppy. When the floppy is ready, try to boot from it. If OK, put this disk aside.
You can then make another Network Access floppy. Move all files in the three folders Apple Menu Items, Control Panels and Extensions (all in the System Folder of the floppy) to the Trash (and empty the Trash). Drag-copy the previously downloaded Disk First Aid 7.2.2 application onto the floppy.
You can make yet another Network Access floppy. Download Drive Setup 1.7.3 (
here). Decode and mount the Drive Setup .smi file. Copy the Drive Setup application to the hard disk. Now, move the System suitcase out of the System Folder of the Network Access floppy, to the main floppy level. Drag the remaining System Folder from the floppy to the Trash (and empty the Trash). The floppy should at this time contain merely a System suitcase. Then, drag-copy the Drive Setup application to the floppy. Finally, rename Drive Setup (call it Finder). This floppy will boot directly to Drive Setup (not the normal Desktop).
You would have to buy Mac OS 8.0/8.1 (the 8.1 update is free, but requires 8.0). System 7.5.3 (7.5.5) should be quite adequate in most cases, though.
