cant login as root

Hi, i suddenly cant login as root anymore (Mac OS 10.4.10 Server). Root user is activated and a password is assigned. Identifying and changing the root password works without any problem (also in terminal) but i still cannot login.

Does anybody know what i can do about this, how i can fix this problem?

I had a similar problem that ended up being a corrupted com.apple.finder.plist in root's ~/Library/Preferences folder. I deleted the plist using terminal as su.

Any number of corrupted plists could cause the problem. Mine happened to be root's finder.plist. If deleting finder.plist doesn't fix the problem, try deleting other suspects: com.apple.dock.plist, com.apple.univeraccess.plist, etc., until you find the corrupted plist.
