Microsoft Word on a MacBook Pro

I just bought a new MacBook Pro with OS 10.5 and was expecting to find Microsoft Word ready to go. (My last purchase was an iBook G3 a few years ago and it came with Word.) There is a trial version of Office 2004 for Mac Test Drive but there doesn't seem to be a permanent version of Word. Do I have to buy Word?

Can I avoid purchasing Word by using Word documents in Pages instead? My wife is coming from a PC to the Mac and we'd like the transition to be as easy as possible.

Thanks,
Dave

you must have bought your previous G3 a second hand for it to come with Office installed.

The previous owner should have taken it off.

Dont despair, you can use pages or - if you want an alternative to MS office download NeoOffice (free)

Its the Mac port of open office - works fine for me and is fully compatible with MS office
