How to post a link (URL) in "Discussions"

Hi All!

You can shorten your links (URLs) by using HTML coding.

This is preferable when the URL is very long. Posting the entire URL can extend the width of a post beyond the range of many computer screens. This can make a post difficult to read, as it necessitates sideways scrolling.

In the example below, replace the first character: ( with <
Replace the last character: ) with >

EXAMPLE:

(a href="http://search.info.apple.com/">Search Apple Support</a)

The resulting link will appear like this <a href="http://search.info.apple.com/">Search Apple Support.

This is the format to use:

Type Title Here

The quotation marks are necessary.

This link Search Apple Support, would be formatted like this:

Search Apple Support

The title can be anything you choose.

To avoid typos, it is helpful to go to the web page you are linking to, and copy & paste the URL from the address bar of your browser.

Some Utilities
level4 Panther only at present

Hi Ali,

So Joerg Weise's "How can I format my post" has been replaced... 🙂

- I use level4 version 0.7.3b for Tiger, and it works just as well as the previous Panther version. Found only one bug (wrong color name "fusicha") so far, so probably very soon you won't need to mention "Panther only" anymore, as Volker should now have more free time after the exams, to finish polishing the last level4 details?

Another one you could mention: Taco HTML Edit (although it is quite a huge beast already, or what do you think?)

Thanks for the TypeIt4Me link. Please note the exact capitals and lowercases.

Hope this helps.
Axl

Hi Axl!

Thank you for your input.

The main purpose of my tip is to show how to post hyperlinks (URLs) in "Discussions".
I did not intend to create a complete formatting information guide. As you've noted, that has been done.

An Apple Discussions Moderator suggested that I include the Utility links. I'm sure there are numerous other utilities for formatting, and I would prefer to keep this tip concentrated on how to post URLs. The "Taco HTML Edit" looks very interesting though! Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up on the BETA of "level4". I will mention that fact in the tip.

On the Typeit4me page, if you look at the logo in the top left corner, you will see the upper/lowercase spelling that I used. It also appears at the bottom of the page, above the "Google" search box.

Thanks Again!
