Brother Control Center not functional with MFC after upgrading to leopard

not sure how much this issue actually has to do with leopard but appeared only after upgrading from Tiger:

after upgrading to leopard i could not get the brother control center to do anything with my MFC-8860DN, even though i could print without any problems using the leopard printer service.
reinstalling the printer and installing the latest twain all did nothing. kept playing around until i clicked on the control center device setting and then pull down menu where it listed the device. clicked on other and then presto, got a menu that showed that it was trying to use an old IP address. all works fine now. how stupid is this placing such an important piece of info in a totally obscure place....?

I was having the same problem. Could not scan with the control center initiated on my computer or with the scan to PC feature on the MFC itself (MFC-9420cn).

I went to the brother web site and updated both my twain drivers, and the remote setup application. The remote setup application now works properly (I'm connected over a wireless network), and the control center is now functioning as well.

Hope this helps, good luck!

I've been having similar but potentially more comprehensive issues. I downloaded the post-leopard brother scanner update, which gave me control center 2 (for scanning, custom scanning, fax, etc). When I first turn on my computer I can usually get it to scan at least once. The second attempt to scan from the control center software often, if not always, ends up in errors - "check the i/f connection", "please turn the device off and on", and "restart your computer". I have a MFC9700. Very frustrating. I've re-installed the brother driver several times, turned on and off my computer and printer in all combinations, closed and re-opened the control center with printer attached an unattached, etc...

Any thoughts out there other than the software / control just doesn't work well?

THIS IS LAME! Thanks for telling us.
And what is "Specify your Machine by Name mdns service name"

None of these selections on the "device panel" actually reveal the printer when hooked up to a Network.

I'd like to use this on the network router so all of the macs can use this printer. The USB cable works fine. (I wish the printer would print a half-tone worth a dang)

OH BROTHER.

I tried all the fixes recommended but still can't open control center. I see the icon sitting up there in the menu bar but it won't open. I even see the control center panel briefly flash open while the computer is booting up, then it is gone. I found the control center on the root hard drive, tried to click that, and it still wouldn't open. Ideas?
