How do I connect my Roland XP-60 to my IMAC?

I'm new to GB. and I have a connection SETUP: I have my Roland XP60 conected via MIDI using a Yamaha 2:1 MIDI/USB conntector. I also have the audio jack conncection with RX60 and the iMAC audio port.

questions:
1- Do I select real or soft instrument?
2- How come I see input on the GB track amd I have the monitor on, I can't hear the keyboard. Why?
3-Is GB considered a sequencer? Do I need more siftware to run MIDI?

Thanks for any help you can give me

1. If you want the Roland sounds, you need the audio connection. That's a "real" instrument
in GB terms. If you just want MIDI, then it's a "soft" instrument. Use the USB/MIDI in
(make sure everything looks good using the AudioMidi utility) and GarageBand will
synthesize the sound.
2. If the track is set to monitor "on", then check your monitor amp or headphones.
3. GB is a digital multitrack recorder AND a sequencer, but only for its internal use.
There is no MIDI out.
